Dr. de Assis Brazil has a BSc in Pharmacy-Biochemistry, a MS. and PhD in Immunology, having completed a doctoral dissertation at University of Sao Paulo, Brazi lstudying how Micobacterium tuberculosus inhibits prostaglandin PGE2 synthesis to evade the immune response. In 2014 she joined the lab of Dr. Ricardo Gazzinelli’s laboratory at Fiocruz-Brazil and later at Umass Chan Medical School for her initial postdoctoral work, where she made significant contributions to the field of malaria research. During this period, Dr. de Assis authored seven peer-reviewed publications, delving into the intricate interplay between host-metabolism, the immune response, and plasmodium circadian cycle. In 2019, Dr de Assis joined Dr. Steve Kunkel Lab where she currently works as Research Investigator in the Department of Pathology at University of Michigan. In 2022, Dr de Assis was awarded the Faculty Research Award from the Shock Society. Dr. de Assis work focus on characterizing metabolic and epigenetic mechanisms in CD4 T cells associated with post-sepsis immunosuppression.
